As we headed out to Magaliesburg late afternoon for the Engagement shoot of Samantha and Gerard, little did we know we would encounter four seasons during one photo session. When we arrived we were greeted by the Classy couple and we just couldn’t wait to get started with this engagement session. As soon as we started it came pouring down with rain, winds blowing us away and thunder that made me a bit jumpy… eventually we waited the storm out and had the most magnificent afternoon light. We are looking forward to capturing your wedding day later this year at De Hoek Country Hotel.
The story of how Gerard met Sam:
They were born a year apart in the same hospital and would stay apart for a few years still. Despite growing up in the same suburb in Pretoria east, going to the same primary school and high school, they would only meet half a decade after leaving the same university.
They would finally meet online when familiar photos stirred familiar memories and they starting talking. Soon they discovered that they again lived in the same part of town, went to the same restaurants and loved the same places. Yet they had never run into each other. He decided that it was time they did and she agreed.
A date was set, and they finally met! She drank semi-sweet wine, he drank gin and tonic. She thought he was too cocky. He thought she was too high maintenance.
Fate had kept them close but never close enough. Perhaps there was a good reason for this. Yet, they kept going to the same places and doing the same things, but this time they did it all together. She learned that he actually wasn’t that cocky and actually more moody, he learned that she was even more high maintenance than he’d feared. However, now it didn’t matter because they had fallen in love.
Eventually they moved into the same house together (they own the same make, model and colour kitchen appliances from before they met). She decorated, he renovated. They shared friends, traveled and loved each other.
Waiting patiently for when her father was in the country from overseas, he asked her parents for permission and showed them a ring. During a romantic picnic, under a shady tree on the banks of Magalies river, ring in hand, he asked her to marry him and she said yes.
