When people talk about “soul-mates” some may say that they feel like they have known their significant other for a lifetime. Ever since Robyn & Ian’s engagement shoot, I was looking forward to their Oakfield Farm Wedding. A couple with such an amazing “falling in Love story” (for those that read it on the blog a while ago with their engagement shoot), I knew something special would happen at their wedding – I would not have expect anything less. It was an honour to be part of your Oakfield Farm Wedding.
“Centuries ago, in order to prove a man loved a woman, he had to do something spectacular. He had to kill a dragon or some other feared creature, scale a mountain or castle or pretty much put his life at risk.
They wouldn’t let me into the cages at the Zoo so the first one is out. Health and safely regulations these days are so strict you can’t even get near a building, even if you have pretty cool abseiling equipment. So I had to come up with some other amazing, impressive way in which I could show the love of my life just how much she means to me.”
For me, that was learning to play a song on guitar and sing…
I am what you would call, not musical. My bride – to – be is the total opposite (she sings and plays multiple instruments).
So on my wedding day, the nervous smile and laughter had very little to do with the fact that I was getting married. Instead it was because I was about to perform in front of close to 200 people, and my wife.
When she walked through those doors, all those nerves temporarily vanished and I realized what an incredible moment this was. I was marrying the woman of my dreams.
So who cares that when I did eventually get to my moment, I dropped the pick, had to re-start because the guitar was out of tune, and I very potentially forgot some of the lines and had to repeat some verses.
At the end of the day, it was about celebrating the beginning of our life together, in front of our amazing friends and family.
We danced, we laughed, ate great food and made incredible memories.
I gained a precious gift in my wife, and I can honestly say it was the best day of our lives (so far).
